A'ight, those of you who asked for fic links, eyes this way. If I didn't forget anything, this should be every fic that I've ever posted in this journal. If it ain't here, it can be found using the "request drabbles" tag. I've tried to keep one-shots in chronological writing order, older ones near the bottom, but not everything is in proper place. Also, I beg that you heed warnings on the fics.

Thirdly, if you're more interested in drawings, hit up the "artpost" tag.

Apologies, but trying to fit this to LJ's post limit pretty much destroyed my story pacing, so it's over here on AO3.

I am looking at my catalog of fic and feeling... not quite disappointed, just kind of odd. The leaps and bounds by which my writing has grown, mostly in the patience of actually waiting until I finish a work to post it, rather than pouncing on spur of the moment need for attention and putting it up in bite-sized pieces, has made me kind of embarrassed by a lot of the older stuff that went unfinished, mostly because I lacked the motivation to keep going because the number of updates ahead seemed so daunting due to that habit. I'm thinking about revisiting old work, and reformatting or rewriting some finished work to suit better with my new style, and either scrapping altogether (or just removing until I can complete them) the unfinished. Any opinions?

Unfortunately, I have hit a tiny snag.

I had a medical bill and a car insurance payment arrive two weeks before they were supposed to, and with my hours cut at work, that didn't exactly put me in the best situation, since I'd been planning the treat bag mailing on the fact that they wouldn't be here yet.

So.

Everything is still going to be sent, but it's going to have to be on the 13th, because I don't get paid again until the 12th. Hopefully everybody's stuff will still arrive before Halloween.

Sorry about this, guys.

It's that time of year again, time for Halloween treat bags! I've expanded options and clarified shipping and rules, so here we go.

How do I get a bag?

- That’s the easy part. Just drop me a note in my PM box (since I was a doofus and screwed up the screened comments for at least one person last year) and answer a few simple questions.

—- 1) List your three favorite types or brands of candy (ie. chocolate-covered coffee beans, Starbursts, jellybeans, or Haribo Gummies).
—- 2) Let me know what allergies you have or what you specifically hate, so I’ll know what to definitely not send you.
—- 3) You get a surprise! Do you want more candy, a toy (if a toy, at least give me a general ballpark fandom to look for, or what type of toy you like most, like action figures or plushies or whatever), or something homemade?
—- 4) The address I need to send it to, of course.

…What kind of homemade things?

- I’m an avid cook, but most of what I make isn’t shippable. However, there are a few things I can send.

—- 1) Stained Glass Candy (like this) in assorted flavors. If you want a specific flavor, please let me know well in advance, as my usual candy-making supply store permanently closed up shop two weeks ago, and I’ll need time to hunt if it’s not a flavor I already have.
—- 2) Chocolate Batarang Cookies
—- 3) Candy Corn Cookies (which are actually butter cookies just glazed to look like candy corn).

- I also do beadwork, so you can have a bracelet or something if you like. Just let me know if there are any metals you’re allergic to.

- And of course, there’s always the option of a cute little sketch, as long as you don’t mind me saving or scanning it to share.

What if I don’t want food at all?

- You always have the option of just toys, or a toy and something beaded, or a toy and a sketch. I don’t mind a bit.

How do you ship them?

- Bubble wrap mailing envelopes. If they’ll fit, I send them in priority flat rate envelopes. If not, then I box them and send them parcel. Last year, I waited until I had everybody’s ready, which turned out to be a huge mistake, as it meant some international peeps didn’t get their stuff until late November, so this year, I’ll try to have any international packages sent by the first week of October, and everybody else’s on the second or third week.

Okay, so what’s the catch? I’m not gonna owe you for this, am I?

- Well, if you insist on an exchange, I won’t say no. :p But really, nothing at all is required. I’m doing this just for fun, not for sale. All I’m actually asking for is that you be patient with me and remember I’m a retail worker in the southeastern US. I will try to let you know well ahead of time if something you asked for is something I can’t get, or can’t afford, and please don’t get shirty with me if I have to do so. Also, no messaging me constantly to ask when I’ll be sending something, unless it’s already late.

Cool! So, anything else?

- Uh… oh, yes! Please drop me a note when you receive your package, so I’ll know it didn’t get lost in the mail or something. Unfortunately, that’s happened before. And if you have questions about something I didn’t cover, feel free to ask in a comment to this post or as a PM.

1989/90 - Jimmy Woo is killed in the line of duty, the G-Men are officially disbanded. The CIA attempts to retain the other supers, but after they find out about the fate of Jimmy’s body, they basically give the feds the middle finger and go into hiding.

— Sam Wilson (Falcon) is one of the new superhero recruits, and the only one in his first team not to burn out.

— Nick Fury becomes the new coordinator for the government’s superhero program.

1992 - A damaged experiment causes medical scientist Simon Williams to be exposed to an unstable new form of energy, creating Wonder Man. The CIA quickly nabs him and covers up the facts before they can hit newspapers, claiming that he was merely made severely ill by the exposure and is being kept quarantined.

1993 - Debris making atmospheric entry collides with the plane of Major Carol Danvers while on a test run for a new Air Force prototype. Officially, the contact with the alien tech gave her the powers to become Ms. Marvel. In truth, they awakened the Kree side of her genetics.

1995 - Monica Rambeau, on a recovery mission for the New Orleans Harbor Patrol, discovers an alien artifact within the pieces of a shipwreck being raised for study. Photon is added to the team.

—Jessica Drew, a CIA agent working in Germany, is found unconscious outside of a raided HYDRA base. On waking, she shows abilities with venom stingers, heightened agility, and flight. The misnamed Spider-Woman is added to the team.

1996 - Biochemist researcher Henry Pym and his colleague Vernon van Dyne are exposed to high levels of the newly christened Pym Particles when an experiment failsafe was sabotaged. Also caught in the explosion is Vernon’s daughter, Janet, who was acting as assistant. The resulting illness proves too taxing for the older van Dyne, who dies of heart failure. Henry and Janet are approached by the CIA once it’s discovered the exposure could have beneficial effects and join as Ant-Man and Wasp.

1998 - Wonder Man becomes stuck in ionic form due to the evolution of his powers. Unable to transform back, he is deemed a security and safety risk by the CIA and effectively placed under house arrest within military bases.

2001 - Ms. Marvel uses her energy absorption powers to contain a massive solar flare before the shockwaves can cause havoc on Earth. After spending two weeks vomiting energy as a result, she too is classified as a safety risk, and her powers are “removed” via radiation exposure. She joins NASA as an expert aide due to the information she’s retained during her time as a cape.

2005 - Photon seemingly loses her powers after expending them on burning out a nuclear missile launch that would have triggered World War III. She joins NASA for the same reasons as Carol.

— Spider-Woman is recaptured by HYDRA. After her escape and return to the states, she registers no abilities in testing and is placed back on regular field agent work.

2006 - Ant-Man is exposed to dangerous levels of a banned experimental nerve gas during a haywire mission, and Wasp is shot in the knee during a rescue of hostages. Both are later blamed for the mission problems and decommissioned. All access to their particle research is revoked, and Wasp’s cybernetic wings are stripped out. Pym is forced to remain with the CIA as a researcher, and van Dyne as his aide.

— Falcon attempts to retire from his duties with the superhero program and the government in general. He is instead reassigned as an intelligence coordinator.

2008 - Formation of SHIELD.

— Fury becomes the Director.

— Pym and van Dyne are reassigned from the CIA to SHIELD.

— Simon Williams is transferred to the more secure SHIELD base from a military zone in Nevada.

— Iron Man and the Hulk break onto the scene.

Time for more world-building notes! This time, I take an angsty ball of headache-inducing plot holes and fuse it with... an angsty ball of continuity plot holes.

- I opted for a Battlestar Galactica twist. Rather than being an entirely alternate timeline, Casshern happened in the same timeline as the Marvelverse, but on another planet. Thus, when the world was destroyed and everyone was reincarnated on another world, that other world was Marvel Earth.

So after a long discussion, over the past couple of months, I've been coming up with plots and backstory for fitting in characters who got royally shafted by the casting for the Avengers. Since I said I'd probably start crossposting some of my world notes from tumblr, this seems as good a topic to start on as any.

Original Idea: Ant-Man and Wasp )

First Fic Expansion: Adding Wonder Man )

Note Set the First: Tallying Up the Players )

Second Fic Expansion: In Which Sam Wilson Explains a Lot of Disturbing Shit, and I Am Mean to Hank and Jan )

And this is all I have so far in the way of backstory building.
Lettuce
Okay. Um. A lot of stuff has happened.

The good:
- I still haven't gotten a better job yet, but I've been accepted as a potential transfer. Even just moving stores will cut some of my bills (gas and car maintenance) and my commute time in half, so this is a good thing.
- I've lost some weight. Going back on one of my medications without changing my eating habits to suit what they were the last time made me balloon really badly. But I'm doing better.
- I'm writing again. It's mostly headcanon notes and fic no one will ever read, but at least it's something, yeah? I might crosspost some of it over from tumblr once I get it all a little more organized.
- The Legend of Korra is looking awesome. After the heavy disappointment I've been feeling concerning the casting of the Avengers movie, it's nice to have something to be excited for.

The bad:
- My maternal grandmother, who was my favorite relative and most staunch supporter, died of infection complications related to colon cancer yesterday morning. I'm still alternating between going numb and randomly bursting into tears, but I'm gonna try going to work this week (except for the funeral day, of course) anyway because she wouldn't have wanted me to sit around sniffling over her when I've still got medical bills of my own to pay. I made a couple of posts here and here, if you're interested in hearing about her.
- Speaking of medical bills, even if there are no other major disasters in the foreseeable future, it's going to take me about another year to pay them all off.
- Because I'm now on work insurance, we thought I might try going back to the head-shrinker. Only it turns out my wonderful, wonderful previous doctor has since retired. So I'm going to have to start this bullshit all over, and I am not looking forward to it.

So, so, like, I don't even remember what inspired this, but I've been bouncing it around in my head for awhile and ended up doing a tiny shortfic about the concept in, like, ten minutes. Basically summed up, it is "Hokuto Sumeragi and Janet van Dyne should be goddesses together. 'Cause they're both dead and the epitome of fabulousness."

I was bored. I regret nothing.

Enjoy.

“I like the stars.”

‘She’ looked up, and if there was any surprise at this strange girl suddenly appearing to talk to her, it didn’t show on her face. “Excuse me?”

“Not everyone could pull off the embodiment-of-the-universe look. You wear it really well, though.

The confusion must have been evident, though, because the girl’s face fell a little. “You can’t see it, can you?”

“No. I just see me. What’s this about universes?”

“Nevermind,” the girl replied, ducking in almost uncomfortably close. “Mind if I hang out?”

“No. It’s way too quiet here,” she said, and though rattled just a moment before, she found she didn’t really mind when the girl practically snuggled against her.

“That’s true. You really do pull it off, though,” she added after a long pause.

“Thank you…I think,” she said as her new companion brushed a hand over her arm, as if examining something. “Those ruffles are cute.”

The girl beamed. “Made the whole thing myself,” she said, before resting her head on her shoulder. Like the hug, the gesture should have been too intimate, but after nothing but white emptiness, it was rather comforting.

They stayed that way in silence for another long while as she quietly basked in the warmth of her unnamed visitor. “When you get out of here,” the girl finally said, soft and much more solemn than before, “Can I go with you?”

Something in that voice tugged at her, and she gently tightened the embrace. “I don’t see why not. But why would you pick me?”

“Hey,
someone’s got to match up to my standards,” the girl said with a sniff. “Not everyone can handle this much fabulous. But also… my brother doesn’t need me anymore,” she admitted, that tone coming back. “And being dead is so boring. I’d like to find a purpose again.”

She understood
that painful feeling all too well, and began petting short hair soothingly. “We’ll find a spot for us. It’s a big world, and there are already lots of heroes to take care of it.”

“Works for me.”

Again, they fell quiet, just holding as they floated in the void.

“What’s your name?” the girl finally asked.

“I’m Jan.”

“I’m Hokuto. And we’re gonna be awesome together.”

Wow...uh, hi! Been a bit. Damn, things have been busy. So, um, here's the catch-up, for those not on tumblr:

- Actually trying to get some fannish shit done. I have a giftfic that I should be able to post Monday at the latest, and a drawing in the works, and another drawing [livejournal.com profile] tarouchan did for me that I'm going to color. Once I replace my poor busted tablet.

- Still going to court. This Wednesday, in fact. My insurance company is rather pissed at these chuckleheads, so they sent me a huge packet of files to study over the weekend.

- Worked Christmas Eve. If there's any one thing I loathe about working Christmas Eve, it's the douchebags who get all indignant that we're closed Christmas Day. Look, jackasses, we work for one of the douchebaggiest of douchebaggy corporate overlords, but this guaranteed day off is one of the very few things we still have. You already got Thanksgiving taken away from us, so fuck off.

- And speaking of the overlords, got an unexpected windfall. See, I was involved in yet another class action suit against my employer a couple of months ago, and got my settlement check Wednesday. Rather than the thirty bucks I expected, I got three hundred, most of which went to paying for my car insurance for the next few months. The rest is going to my "new mattress" fund.

- It's not been that long since we lost my stepgrandfather, and my family's already preparing to circle the wagons and fight for another ill person. My maternal grandmother has been diagnosed with colon cancer, and there's already evidence that it's spread to her liver. She's planning on going through chemo, and everything's kind of touch and go, so right now, it's a lot of hoping and working on everyone's part.

- I just discovered yesterday that a local woman who was a shooting victim this week was actually someone I know. Though it's been over ten years, her daughter and I used to be friends. I can't go to the receiving because of work, so since my parents are, I'm sending a card and money with them to go to the fund for her brother/the victim's son, who's going to need care for the rest of his life.

So, wow. Yeah. It's been a long December and an even longer year.
Suspicious Coyote
Still here, I swear. Unfortunately, I haven't had much in the way of good news to report. My stepgrandfather passed, the funeral was held, Thanksgiving was had, and I survived nine hours of Black Friday. Still negotiating with the insurance company to see what they want me to do with this douchey hearing demand or whatever. Had my worst allergy attack in a long while at work a couple of nights ago. Ended up coughing myself into vomiting, and blew my throat out so I couldn't talk for the rest of my shift. Better now, though.

Haven't been working on fic or art much. Bad me, I know. Especially since I've got a couple of deadlines this month. Trying to dredge up the energy. Meh.

Still trying to find a better job. Still no luck. But at least there haven't been any major emergencies (watch me have just jinxed myself), so I'm slowly starting to save myself up a little nest egg. ::crosses fingers::
Annoyed Coyote
::eyetwitch:: So, y'all remember my wreck in May, right? Well, I'd finally gotten everything squared away with the insurance companies. Blue Cross was off my ass, all medical, wage, and car claims had been handled. Everything's shiny.

I got a letter today.

The pair responsible for the accident have apparently realized they're in deep shit. See, in Tennessee, causing an accident while being uninsured is grounds for getting your license revoked. And of course, they don't want that. So now they've demanded, and been granted, a hearing in which they're going to try to prove they weren't at fault. And unless the insurance companies say otherwise and deal with it themselves, both I and driver three have to appear or risk having the damage assessment automatically awarded to these douches, possibly invalidating all the work we'd gone through getting our claims settled.

Not. Amused.

On the way to work today (yesterday?), I got a call from Mama. My paternal stepgrandfather, who was supposed to be released from the hospital, went into cardiac arrest. Throughout the day, I checked for updates, only to be told there was no change, and when I called after clocking out from work, I found out why. He’s on life support, and they’re basically just keeping him in one piece until his daughter can get here from MA tomorrow (today. whatever). Then they’re going to pull the plug. My grandmother’s understandably having a bit of an emotional meltdown, because aside from this, the tenth anniversary of my grandfather’s death was only two weeks ago. So…we’re just all trying to figure out how the hell to work around this, the holidays, and work, especially since his will asked that he be buried in his hometown four states away. Depending on who needs to go where and do what, I may or may not be around much for the next week or so.

“Once you’re no longer the player or the programmer, just another world inhabitant, things go out of control pretty quickly. Once the program started to degrade, the characters had free reign to do whatever they pleased and few higher protocols to stop them. You can try to fight back, but you won’t always win. Most of the time, you won’t. Especially when the other inhabitants were designed with powers that you can’t access anymore.

I admit... there were times I tried to make it stop for good. When the edges of the world started crumbling, there was just... space. Black, empty space, beyond the borders. I don’t remember how many times I threw myself into it. Eleven, eighteen, whatever. Didn’t care if it meant waking up or dying for real. At that point, I had no idea whether my physical body even still existed anymore or if I was truly just a ghost in a machine, but anything was better than staying in that place. Staying with those things. But every time, I just found myself reconstructed back in the center of things and, eventually, I finally had to admit that I wasn’t getting out until everything else was gone.

So after that, it was just… a whole lot of hiding. Can't get hurt if the others can't find you. When you don't need to eat and sleep is a luxury, it meant spending a lot of time in the dark. Alone. Nothing there except you and your thoughts.

The thinking was what finally made me face facts. Admit that it was my own fault I was still there. He’d given me every chance in the world to wise up and back down, and I was too stupid to have anything but my own way. So I deserved to be left there. I deserve to be like I am now. I’m not holding a grudge. It's not my right to do so.

But I still have nightmares of that place. And every time I wake up in the darkness, sick and shaking and vowing not to sleep ever again, I wish I’d died when everything finished falling to pieces."

Hrm... to write this as a full fic or not...

::eyes current ficbunny warily:: Also, Christ, what is it with me and technology-induced psyche-degrading plots lately?

Separated into serious shit and not so serious shit this time.

Serious Shit:

- The problem with being employed is that I have all this shit in my head I wanna do (fic, art, cooking) and I can't fucking do it because I'm, y'know, working, and then when I finally get a day off, I'm so post-stress-burned-out that I don't wanna do jack shit. Rawrgh. There's also the issue of how zee cor-por-ate is fucking us all over lately. Besides the hour cuts, they've put a freeze on transferring from part-time to full-time positions or hiring full-timers at all (they won't admit it, but it's totally because full-time gets benefits like company health insurance a full six months earlier, and they're hoping part-timers quit before their required year's up), and started combining departments together (and some of them are the most random shit, like lawn/garden and fabrics), which means nearly all of us are doing more work with no pay-raises to show for it.

- Sammie's sick. Well, not sick, sick. She's picked up this weird inflammatory joint thing that she seems to get every fall. Poor baby's miserable, even with her medication. She tried to jump up on my bed earlier and that and me having to pick her up to help her get back down both hurt her so much she lost bladder control. Bedding's in the wash, Sammie's curled up on her bed pad.

- Because Sammie's doing so badly, I'm with her instead of going to a funeral with my parents. My great-uncle on Dad's side died Thursday night. Dad's super depressed about it, 'cause they and my uncle were kind of a little support network after my grandfather died not quite ten years ago. The timing's super sucky, too, since said ten year anniversary is only two weeks from Thursday. I'm not especially religious myself, so it'd be pretty hypocritical to ask for prayers, but if you're of a mind, toss a few good thoughts his way, okay?

Not-So-Serious-Shit:

- I swear to God, stress has made the inner girl I've been keeping locked in a closet for years come flailing out. My recovery efforts seem to consist mostly of Sushi Cat and internet dress up games. My ten and fifteen year old selves are so disgusted.

- I'm thinking about getting a tumblr account. Would anyone actually be interested in my inane ramblings and posting random fannish shit?

- It's kind of pathetic, but I want to save up for a Wii this Christmas. Specifically for one game. Epic Mickey, you will be mine.

- I managed to somehow accidentally run a bottle of nail polish through the wash. It didn't open though, thankfully. I also managed to catch myself just in time to not reflexively lick sriracha sauce off my finger while making dinner the other night. That would have been an unpleasant few hours.

- Please let next month suck less than this one. ...And the rest of the year before it.

Mama: I don't have any plastic wrap left, so you're going to have to put this pie in something.
Me: (eyes pie and gets out a spoon) I think I'm gonna have to break it up, because I couldn't find any container big enough for it.
Mama: What about this one? (hands over plastic container)
Me: It's wide enough, but kinda short.
Mama: Well, if you're gonna break it up anyway...
Me: ...Oh, right. (looks at pie in pan) ... (looks at container and spoon) Actually...
Mama: (drinking milk) Hm?
Me: (flips over pie pan, neatly dumping pie upside down into container)
Mama: (quickly swallows and starts cracking up)
Me: (squishes on lid and puts spoon back in drawer) There. Now I only have to squish it a little bit instead of making mush.
Mama: (still snickering) Whatever works, I suppose.

Then, of course, she had to go tell Dad, who found it very amusing as well. Ah, dull evenings.

Okay, except for one (who knows the reason why it will be late), all Halloween treats have been mailed out. Most should be getting arriving by Monday or Tuesday ([livejournal.com profile] brinylon, they said yours would take about a week or so).
